All of my lessons are carefully designed for each individual student. My aim is to gently encourage the natural musicality that we all share, and to help my students find freedom in their own style.
Music is one of our most valuable forms of self-expression and play. There is a reason we call it 'playing' music!
Students of all ages and abilities are welcome to get in touch.
In practical music lessons, I teach a good balance of playing by ear and instinct alongside an understanding of the technical language of music. A lot of people are afraid of music 'theory', or find it boring or irrelevant. I hope to be able to show that it's neither scary or boring, but in fact a creative tool, designed by some of the best musicians in the world over hundreds of years! Other people find it difficult to break away from the page (something I can deeply sympathise with). For students like this we can 'play' together at jamming and improvising, and learn not to be afraid!
For very young students, I focus on learning through play, using games and improvisation to ensure that lessons are fun and practising doesn't become a chore. Adults can just play games too if they want!
I also offer music theory lessons, using the ABRSM syllabus, up to Grade 5.
I charge £13 for a half hour lesson, or £20 for an hour and students are welcome to come to my home, or I can travel to you in some areas.
